Dear Client, As per your legal query,
Since your in-laws have filed a false police complaint against you for stealing your jewellery .If you are ruled by Hindu law, the jewellery gifted to you at the time of marriage is called “streedhan.”
Streedhan is 100% legally yours, even if it was gifted by your in-laws. Your husband or mother-in-law has no legal right to keep it without your permission.
In the case of Pratibha Rani vs. Suraj Kumar, the Supreme Court clearly ruled that a husband or his family holding a woman's Streedhan are trustees, and refusal to return it amounts to criminal breach of trust under section 316 BNS.
You can also file a police complaint against your in-laws and husband for such cruelty and false complaints.
