► I need legal advice regarding an old issue related to my digital marketing agency.
Around 3–4 years ago, due to serious personal circumstances, I was unable to provide services to approximately 12–15 clients. The value of each service was relatively small, around ₹2,499–₹3,499 per client.
Some clients threatened to take legal action. A few of them told me they would file an FIR, while others said they had filed an NCR/complaint. However, to the best of my knowledge:
The clients only had my WhatsApp number.
They did not have my residential address.
I have never received any police notice, summons, court notice, or any communication from any investigating authority.
The clients were from different cities and different states.
Since then, about 3–4 years have passed, and I have not been contacted by the police or any court.
I want to understand the following:
Based on these facts, what is the legal position?
Is it possible that an FIR or any criminal case exists without my knowledge?
Is there any way to verify whether any FIR, complaint, or criminal case has been registered against me anywhere in India?
Do I need to take any preventive legal steps at this stage?
I am preparing for government job examinations. During document verification or attestation forms, candidates are often asked whether they have any criminal case pending against them. In my situation, should I declare that I have no criminal case pending, or should I mention this incident even though I have never received any notice or confirmation that a case exists?
Please advise me on the correct legal course of action.
