► I am a 20-year-old student and I need legal advice regarding an incident involving a person I previously knew. During an argument, he entered my accommodation without my permission, became aggressive and physically assaulted me, including slapping me and twisting my wrist, which resulted in bruising. He also verbally abused me and damaged some belongings. During the incident, he damaged his own belongings and harmed himself with a knife while acting aggressively, which made me feel extremely frightened and unsafe. I did not physically assault him. I was scared during the incident and complied with some of his demands because I wanted the situation to end and for him to leave. I want to understand what legal options are available to me, whether I can make a police complaint, what evidence I should preserve, and whether I should get a medical examination/documentation of my injuries. I am a student and I am particularly concerned about my safety and the appropriate legal procedure to follow.

Firstly you can file a FIR in the nearest police station for Criminal Tresspass, Voluntarily Causing Hurt,Criminal Intimidation & Verbal Abuse and Mischief under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Secondly, you need to urgently visit your nearest hospital for physical examination of your bruises and request them to make a Medico-Legal Case (MLC) report so that evidence can be collected of physical assault.

Collect other evidences such as the picture of your bruises, pictures of your damaged property, any kind of means of communication such as text, email, etc. indicating threats and you can submit it along with the Complaint.

You can ask for police protection in case the person attacks you again,
