► I need some guidance regarding my documents . On my SSC, HSC, and Leaving Certificate, my mother's first name(Kavita) is mentioned. However, on my degree marksheets and degree certificate, my mother's full name (kavita ramesh bansode) is mentioned. Because of this difference, I am confused about what I should do. Will a notarized affidavit stating that both names refer to the same person be sufficient, or do I need to get my degree documents corrected? Correcting all the degree documents seems like a very long and hectic process, so I would really appreciate legal advice. Will this problem affect my Foreign university application and visa process

Dear Client,

Based on the facts, a notarized affidavit stating that Kavita and Kavita Ramesha Bansode are one and the same person is usually the considered to be the most practical solution. The practical advice would be to not rush to correct all degree documents right away. As for most applications, especially where the issue is only the mother’s name being written in abbreviated form in SSC, HSC, and leaving certificate and in expanded form in degree records, an affidavit plus supporting proof is the least burdensome route. University record systems also commonly have formal procedures to update or cross reference names, which shows that institutions treat name variations as a documentation issue that can be explained and matched, not necessarily a fatal defect.

For your foreign university applications and visa proceedings, this can cause a query or delay because authorities often check whether the names in the file are aligned. An affidavit is usually considered enough to explain the mismatch, but a foreign university or consulate can still ask for more proof or documents if their internal inquiry requires it. Hence, you must start by preparing a notarised affidavit, keep a copy of your mother’s ID, showing her full name. Use the same full version of your mother’s name in future forms and attach the affidavit wherever the mismatch may matter. If the foreign university or visa office specifically asks for exact matching, then you can consider correcting the degree documents later; otherwise, the affidavit route is usually sufficient for practical purposes. I hope this helps. If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact.

Dear Sir,

Prepare a Notarized Affidavit stating that both names refer to the same person.

Typical wording:

I, (Your Name), S/o or D/o (Father's Name), residing at (address), do hereby declare that my mother’s name appearing as “Kavita” in my SSC, HSC and Leaving Certificate and “Kavita Ramesh Bansode” in my Degree Marksheets and Degree Certificate refers to one and the same person, i.e., my mother.

Attach copies of:

Your educational certificates

Your mother's ID proof (Aadhaar / PAN etc.)
