Dear Client
According to the facts presented above, you were supposed to be the beneficiary of the transaction but unfortunately, the transfer was done to another person's UPI account due to the selection of the wrong number. If the money was never credited to your bank account, you ordinarily cannot be required to refund money that you did not receive.
You should clearly inform the sender in writing that you did not receive the disputed amount and that the transfer was made by the sender to a different UPI account. You should not sign a stamp-paper document admitting that you received the money, accepting liability, or undertaking repayment when that is factually incorrect. A stamp paper is not, by itself, a requirement for resolving an erroneous UPI transfer.
The sender should immediately raise a complaint with his bank and through the relevant UPI grievance mechanism, providing the transaction ID and details of the account to which the money was actually transferred. The bank/UPI provider can initiate the appropriate recovery process with the unintended recipient's bank.
If the sender threatens police or legal proceedings against you, retain the UPI messages, the QR code/UPI details you originally provided, and your bank statement showing that the amount was not credited to you. A complaint by itself does not establish that you committed an offence. Do not make any false statement, but cooperate with a lawful inquiry if contacted by the authorities.
I hope this answer helps. If you have any further query kindly do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you.
