You could choose to take both criminal and civil actions to resolve these problems. As for fraud, you can file a police report against them for cheating and forgery as per BNS, 2023. A complaint relating to the dowry demand can be filed under the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, or possibly under Section 85 of BNS, in case of any harassment or cruelty. In matrimonial matters, you can file for annulment of marriage under Sec. 12 of the Hindu Marriage Act (HMA), 1955, based on your consent being taken by means of fraud of relevant facts, or you may file for divorce.
