Dear Sir,
Decide Between Criminal & Civil Defamation
Criminal defamation → Section 499 & 500 IPC (file a private complaint before Magistrate).
Civil defamation → Suit for damages in District Court or High Court (based on amount claimed).
You can file both simultaneously; they are independent remedies.

You can file suit for damages on the ground of defamation and you can also file criminal defamation complaint case.
