► I am an employee in a school and working as a teacher. Someone is asking my personal information like my certificates and colleges I attended and my engagement letter. I have the right to deny it as if falls under personal information.
But the RTI application I received from my authorities is a frivolous one as the date mentioned in the application is a future date, not the real date. I want to make it an issue and let them know that I am aware of their tactics and they want to harass me. Please tell me how to respond to this. Thank you.

You are legally permitted to reject this application. As per Section 8(1)(j) of the Right to Information Act, 2005, employment letters and educational certificates are classified as private data. Their disclosure is generally prohibited due to the breach of privacy involved, though overriding public interest may necessitate the disclosure.
In order to deal with such mistreatment professionally, you need to send a written protest to the Public Information Officer (PIO) explaining the two reasons:
- Statutory Exemption: Reject consent to disclosure, referring to Section 8(1)(j) specifically.
- Procedural Defect: Make a reference to an invalid “future date” in the application. It should be stated that this makes the RTI legally invalid and possibly applies as an act of harassment.
