► My name is Gaurav Singh. I was working in a college from 26 June 2019 to 21 May 2025 as an assistant professor. My service was continuous but they have given appointment letters on an annual basis for ex. For academic year 2024-25 they have given appointment letter from 1 June 2024 to 31 May 2025.
And in this academic year they decided to discontinue my service, so I want to know, Is I'm eligible for any compensation and Gratuity or not?

Dear Sir,
Under the Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972:
An employee is entitled to gratuity after 5 years of continuous service
“Continuous service” includes service under fixed-term or yearly contracts, if:
Work was uninterrupted, and
Re-appointments were routine/automatic
Courts have consistently held that artificial annual appointment letters cannot defeat gratuity rights.
