► Dear Sir/Madam,
I am seeking legal advice regarding the possibility of divorce and potential alimony obligations.
I have been married for 28 years and we have one daughter. My husband stopped working about 9 years ago (at age 50) and has contributed bare min financially since then. For the past 5 years, I have been working full-time and bearing almost all household and family expenses.
My husband frequently creates issues regarding household spending, borrows money from friends on false pretences, and has addictions to marijuana, bidis/cigarettes, and alcohol. He has also been involved in inappropriate sexual chats with former colleagues, which I have personally seen on multiple occasions. When confronted, he becomes abusive and forcibly takes away his phone.
He has not taken responsibility for our daughter for many years. Due to prolonged mental stress, I am now suffering from hypertension, diabetes, and insomnia.
Given these circumstances, I would like to understand:
Whether these facts constitute valid legal grounds for divorce.
Whether my husband, being capable but voluntarily unemployed and financially dependent on me, can legally claim alimony.
Whether my medical condition and long-term financial responsibility toward the family would be considered by the court.
I would appreciate your guidance on my legal position and possible next steps.
Regards,
